Using @mentions in the RingCentral mobile app
| RingCentral app

Last updated on February 26, 2022
You can use @mentions as a way to call someone’s attention to a specific message or make reference to a message previously posted in a conversation. You can use @mentions to call one, multiple, or an entire team of users to a particular message.

Mentioning a person using @mention

If you want to @mention a person, you will be limited to only the people in the current conversation. If you would like to @mention a person that is not currently part of a conversation, you will first need to invite them to that conversation.

There are two ways to @mention a person. One way is by quoting a previous message. When you quote another user’s message, it will automatically @mention the owner of the original message. To learn more, visit Managing your messages in the RingCentral mobile app

The other method is by manually @mentioning a person in your message. While composing a message, you can @mention a person by following these steps:
  1. Navigate to Message via the bottom menu bar.
  2. Select a conversation from the conversation list.
  3. Type the @ symbol in the message field to reveal a list with possible matches.
  4. Type a name to narrow your search results.
  5. Select from the list of names.
  6. Compose your message and tap Send.
Mentioning a person using @mention is meant to draw a person's attention to a message. If someone used the @mention to mention you in a conversation, your name will be highlighted in yellow so it’s easy to see that you’ve been mentioned.

Alternatively, if you or another person has used the @mention to mention another user, that person’s name will appear in blue text.

Mentioning a team using @team

If you would like to draw the attention of an entire team to a particular message, you can include @team in your message. To mention a team, follow these steps:
  1. Navigate to the Message section of the app.
  2. Select a team conversation from the conversation list.
  3. Type the @ symbol anywhere within your message to reveal a list of possible matches.
  4. Select @Team (notify everyone) from the list.
  5. Once you’ve completed composing your message, tap the Send airplane icon to send that message.
Once you have sent a message with an @team mention, everyone in that team will receive a notification, and ‘Team’ will appear in the message, highlighted in yellow.

Note: Team admins can either enable or disable @team mentions in a team via the Team settings section in the team profile. To learn more, visit Creating a new team in the RingCentral mobile app

Viewing @mentions

  1. Navigate to the Message at the bottom menu bar.
  2. Tap the three-dot More icon at top right (Android) or tap the filter icon (iOS).
  3. Select @mentions in the dropdown menu.
Here, all messages that have used an @mention to mention you will appear in a list. Your most recent @mentions will appear at the top of the page.

If you would like to view and respond to that @mention in the conversation it was included in, tap that message to navigate to the conversation that contains the part of the message thread containing @mention.

Hyperlink to a team

You can refer to your team in any conversations by using the @ or # sign to directly link a team or a person in a team for conversations.
  1. Navigate to Message via the bottom menu bar.
  2. Select any conversation.
  3. Type # to trigger team mention in the Message field, and then tap the team name. You can type in @ to trigger a pop-up to mention specific team members.
